Our Five FunctionsWhat Are Our Five Major Emphases?Calvary Baptist is focused upon five major emphases: Prayer, Worship, Discipleship, Fellowship, and Evangelism. At the center of all we do is our focus upon Christ. Through prayer, worship, discipleship and fellowship, we develop and grow in our personal and corporate relationship with Christ. Through a process of maturation in Christ, we are then directed outward and compelled to do evangelism in each of the first four areas. Evangelism becomes a priority and a natural expression of our spiritual growth in Christ. A synopsis of the Five Functions is detailed here, and note the model below that illustrates these functions. Acts 2:42ff, They devoted themselves to the apostles teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. I. Prayer: Our goal is to involve all members in an active Prayer Ministry in Calvary Baptist. 2 Samuel 12:23, "As for me, far be it from me that I should sin against the Lord by ceasing to pray for you." II. Worship: Our desire is to Engage in Dynamic Worship. Dynamic worship is not static; there is a dynamic range from celebrative praise to heartfelt adoration and worship. Calvary Baptist's style of worship is blended with both traditional and contemporary elements. Hebrews 13:15, "Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer a sacrifice of praise the fruit of lips that confess His name." III. Discipleship: We want to lead believers through a process of maturation from infancy to adulthood. 2 Tim 2:2, "And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses, entrust to reliable men, who will be qualified to teach others." Ephesians 4:11-13, "He gave some . . . to be pastors and teachers to prepare God's people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ." IV. Fellowship: We believe fellowship to be the deepest sense of the Greek word "Koinonia", whereby we promote unity and nuturing of faith by building interpersonal relationships and connecting people in groups. 1 John 1:3, "And we proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ." V. Evangelism: Our deep desire is to effectively introduce people to Christ and fulfil the Great Commission of Matthew 28:19-20.
